Forestry Outdoor Learning

Learning without Limits – Forestry Outdoor Education

Our ‘Learning without Limits’ project is inspired by Forest Schools. We aim to extend outdoor learning further to develop children’s full learning potentials and make the most of our extensive grounds. We inspire young minds, encourage curiosity and stimulate all senses in a way that indoor learning simply cannot do.

Exploring the natural world makes subjects such as reading, mathematics, science and social studies more relevant through real hands on experiences. By participating in engaging, motivating and achievable activities in a woodland environment each child has an opportunity to develop self-motivation, good communication, team working skills, sound emotional and social skills. In addition, children will develop strong self-awareness, independence, a positive mental attitude, self-esteem and confidence.

Forestry learning is seen as an important part of the curriculum at Little Elms Montessori Nursery, complementing the Montessori and Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Woodland outdoor learning reflects the nursery’s vision of developing an organic curriculum that is centred around the individual child, enabling all children to reach their full potential socially, emotionally and academically during their time here.

This Scandinavian initiative is having a growing impact on young children in the UK and it has excellent benefits not just for health and well-being but also for their environmental understanding. These interactions with the natural environment will have a positive impact on your child’s future.

“The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.” ~ Forest
